Your driver’s license is a way to identify that the check or another form of payment is actually yours, too. If you are planning to put money towards a down payment you will need some way to pay for it. Proof of insurance: In order to drive your new vehicle off the lot, you will need proof of insurance. Now that summer is simmering down and we turn the corner to fall, there is no better time to make sure your ride is in tip-top shape for the fall/winter weather that is ahead of us. After all of your travel, your vehicle is probably in need of some well-deserved TLC like a tune-up, but even if your vehicle needs more extensive work, we can get the job done right! An issue many drivers run into is a mysterious fluid leak. This can be common, but it is an issue that needs attention as soon as possible in other cases. So when should you be concerned, and more importantly how do you know what fluid is leaking? Great question! Did you know that you can figure out what fluid is leaking from your vehicle just by the color and texture of the fluid? Lucky for you, this week we have you we have a color guide and some extra direction to help you figure out what could be leaking from your vehicle. Check it out below! LIght brown to black: If the fluid leaking from your vehicle is a brownish/black color, chances are it’s motor oil. This can leak from various spots of your vehicle, but if it is leaking from the center and the odor smells like rotten eggs, the culprit could be a lube oil leak. This won’t stop your vehicle dead, but it means that there is an ongoing issue and you should bring your vehicle in for a professional examination Light yellow to dark brown: Brake fluid starts as a clear/yellow color and as it ages it becomes dark brown, similar to motor oil. An easy way to distinguish is simple, just feel the fluid. If the fluid feel slippery, it’s likely brake fluid. If this is the case, your vehicle is not safe to drive and you’re going to want to bring it in for repair as soon as possible. Red(ish): If the fluid leaking from your vehicle is a red or reddish color, it’s generally power steering fluid. Power steering fluid will leak from under the front part of your car and is thin in texture. If this is the case, there is an issue with the power steering pump. Orange: If the leak is from your vehicle’s center and the fluid is an orange/reddish-brown color, it could be transmission fluid. However, rust from your radiator mixing with an antifreeze leak can appear orange-ish as well. However, the antifreeze will be thin and can leak from anywhere, which could help you determine the difference. Yellow, Green, or Pink: These leaks will be the easiest to spot, and typically the simplest to diagnose. More times than not, the cause of such bright puddles is a simple coolant leak. In these cases, your vehicle’s age comes into play. Older vehicles tend to blow off a bit of coolant when the engine gets too hot, so a few little spots are nothing to worry about. If your vehicle is newer, this coolant shouldn’t be dripping any excess liquids so it might be a good idea to bring it in for a look. Clear: If the fluid leaking from your vehicle looks like water, it probably is water. The air conditioning can build up excess condensation and result in puddles of water underneath your vehicle. This occurs in properly running cars, only be worried if it becomes constant and a lot. Ask for the records: If you’re considering a used vehicle, it’s important to know everything about the vehicle’s past life. That includes things as small as maintenance reports to bigger things like accident reports, and everything in between. The more you know, the less you’ll be surprised if something isn’t working properly. Do your research: You might love the way a vehicle looks, but you could hate it the second you get inside and see what it offers. To save yourself a trip, do some research about the vehicle, it’s trim levels, features that it offers, etc. Then when you’re test driving the vehicle you can test these features out, ask about them, or even notice if they aren’t working properly. Test Everything: Regardless if you buy used or new, there is always a possibility of features not working properly. A test drive is not just about driving the vehicle is about learning the features, deciding if it’s comfortable, making sure everything is working. Assure yourself that the vehicle is worth the investment. If you find issues, be sure to point them out and even ask about a price reduction. Test drive multiple vehicles: It’s not a bad idea to test drive more than one vehicle, it is a way for you to compare similar vehicles and see what other vehicles offer that yours might not.
