January is here and that means that we are officially in full swing of winter. Many of us might not be a fan of the cold weather and I’ve got some news for you, your vehicle isn’t either. The truth is that the winter weather is pretty tough on your vehicle and if your vehicle isn’t in tip-top shape you could find yourself running into trouble. One of the biggest victims of cold weather issues is your vehicle’s battery. We suggest taking your vehicle into professionals for a battery test if you fall into the category of owning an old battery. If you find yourself stuck out in the cold due to a dead battery, we’ve put together a small “how to” help get you out of the cold and back on the road in time. If the information below doesn’t help restart your battery, we suggest calling a tow truck and having professional look at your battery. Fiore Volkswagen's Guide To Reviving Your Battery: Take out your jumper cables. It's a good idea to buy a set of jumper cables and keep them in your car. If you don't have jumper cables, phone a friend who can meet you with jumper cables and a vehicle that can jump yours. Hit the brakes: Place both vehicles in Park or Neutral and shut off the ignition in both cars. Engage both parking brakes as well. Positive or negative? Attach one of the red clips to the positive terminal of your battery. It has "POS" or "+" on it, or it's bigger than the negative terminal. Attach the other red clip to the positive terminal of the other car. Attach one of the black clips to the negative terminal on the other battery. Attach the last black clip to an unpainted metal surface on your car that isn't near the battery. Use one of the metal struts that holds the bonnet open. Try to start your vehicle. If it won't start, make sure that the cables are properly connected and have your friend run his or her engine for five minutes. Then try to start your car again. If it still won't start, your battery may be beyond help.

Fiore Volkswagen’s Color Guide To Fluid Leaks Clear: This is usually water from the air conditioning building up excess condensation and resulting in puddles of water underneath your vehicle. Unless this problem persists in great quantities, you’ve got nothing to worry about! Yellow, Green, or Pink: Due to their bright colors, these leaks are usually easy to spot. If your vehicle is an older model and there are only a few spots here and there it’s not something to worry about. But, if there are larger puddles of this fluid or your vehicle is newer, this coolant shouldn’t be dripping any excess liquids so it might be a good idea to bring it in to a professional. Orange: If there is orange/reddish-brown fluid leaking from the center of your vehicle, it could be transmission fluid. However, rust from your radiator mixing with an antifreeze leak can appear orange-ish as well, but can leak from multiple spots so placement is a key determining factor with this one. Red(ish): Power steering fluid appears red in color with a thin texture and will leak from under the front part of your car. If this is the case, there is an issue with the power steering pump and you should seek out a service professional. Light yellow to dark brown: Brake fluid starts out as a clear/yellow color and as it ages it becomes dark brown, similar to motor oil. Distinguish between the two by dipping your finger in it. If the fluid feels slippery, it’s likely brake fluid. If this is the case, your vehicle is not safe to drive and you’re going to want to have it towed it in for repair as soon as possible. Light brown to black: If the fluid leaking from your vehicle is a brownish/black color with an iridescent hue, chances are its motor oil. This can leak from various spots of your vehicle and won’t stop your vehicle dead, but it means that there is an ongoing issue and you should bring your vehicle in for a professional examination

No matter how much or little time you spend behind the wheel, there is a very good chance you have experienced a form of road rage at one point in time. Whether you tend to lose your temper regularly or once in a while, road rage can lead to dangerous traffic situations. We want to ensure the safety of drivers each time they head out on the road. This week we are dedicating our blog to preventing road rage and tips that can help you stay calm behind the wheel. Method 1: Staying calm when you experience road rage When you recognize your rising anger, it is important to stay calm. Take a few deep breaths, try to clear your mind, and remember driving while angry can put yourself and others at a heightened risk. Listening to calming music can also help you stay calm and resist the urge to retaliate against other drivers. Keep your distance from the vehicle who may have cut you off or otherwise made a road error. Tailgating will increase your chances of an accident. Method 2: Stay safe when other drivers are aggressive In the event of an aggressive driver, stay calm. Do not let their actions affect your driving, keep your emotions in check, and allow them to pass by. Avoid making eye contact and when they do pass, drive defensively to ensure your own safety. Keep your eyes on the road, don’t tailgate, and stay a safe distance behind the car in front of you. Remember your priorities, it is important to get home to your family safely. Don’t entertain aggressive drivers. Method 3: Preventing your own personal road rage Before heading out, check your own mood. Washing your car… seems like something you could do in your sleep, right? You used to do this with your dad all the time when you were a kid. He’d get out the hose, fill up a bucket with some soap and a rag, and then let you go to work while he sat back and cracked a beer, offering advice from the sidelines every so often. Well, times have changed, and your dad’s car probably had a ton of swirl marks from your youthful washing strategy. So, we’re here to just make sure that you know exactly how to properly wash your vehicle so that you can teach your kids how to not ruin your paint while enjoying a fun springtime family activity! Your first step should be to rinse your vehicle thoroughly with the hose before doing any washing. Make sure you’re using fairly high pressure water to really get the dirt off of your vehicle. Then, get your clean microfiber cloth or washing mitt and automobile shampoo (NEVER use dish soap!!!) and get to work. When washing, make sure you do a panel at a time and that you wash in long, straight strokes. Rinse your washing cloth frequently so you’re not grinding debris into your paint job unintentionally! After you’ve soaped up your vehicle, wait a minute before rinsing it off and get your wheels with a wheel brush. Wash between each of the spokes with soap and make sure your tires and wheels are in good shape after the winter. Finally, rinse off your vehicle with another blast from the hose, and then dry it off with a clean, dry microfiber cloth. Never let the water evaporate on its own! This leaves rings and deposits that are hard to remove later and can damage the paint of your vehicle. For this reason, it’s great to wash your vehicle in the shade. The last step? If you want to, apply a protectant spray or wax to your vehicle to make sure your paint stays glossy and beautiful and doesn’t get damaged easily. There you go! Being able to see is always a bonus in life. When you’re walking down the sidewalk, you always try to make sure not to run into someone; when you’re at a party you don’t just plow through the other guests. It should be the same while you’re driving, but many of us have blind spots in our vehicles that just don’t seem to go away. Well, thank goodness for this blog, because we’re going to share some of our tips on getting rid of your blind spots once and for all! The first way is more of a permanent way, but it works like a charm. Simply buy some aftermarket small convex mirrors at your local auto parts store and stick them on the outer corners of your wing mirrors. Make sure you clean your mirrors first so that the new ones will adhere properly! The second step is more in-depth but much less permanent. You can adjust your existing mirrors to eliminate blind spots. Here’s how: Adjust your rearview mirror to give you a view directly to the rear. Make it so that it best covers your rear window view. Don’t tilt it to get side views - just straight back through your window. Lean your head until it almost touches your driver’s side window. Adjust your left side mirror so you can just barely see the side of your car - no more. Lean your head to the passenger side as far as you can comfortably while still sitting up and adjust the right mirror so you can barely see the right side of your car. Do you know that you should be checking your car’s oil at least once a month? Yeah, you should be. And that means knowing how to check your oil, which is also something that a lot of people don’t have experience with. We’ve put together this step-by-step guide to checking your oil that should have all your bases covered, and help you every month between oil changes when you check your oil! Open the hood. Prop it up so that it stays open. Locate the oil dipstick next to the engine. It should have a yellow handle and/or be labeled. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it on a clean cloth or paper towel. Dip the stick all the way back in. Pull it out again and look at the oil level. If it’s in the middle of the hatched/indicated area, you’re good. More is better, less is okay, but if you’re lower than the area you need to get your oil topped up and have your system checked for leaks. Look at the oil quality and color. If there are a lot of particles or if the oil looks sludgy, you need to get it changed as soon as possible. Put the dipstick back in. Close your hood. Get Service For A Lot Less With These Specials

If you’re a Pennsylvania resident, you know by now that you need to renew your driver’s license every four years. However, that renewal process might seem complicated. Here are the steps to successfully renewing your PA driver’s license, from the PA DMV! A Pennsylvania driver's license is valid for four years expiring on the day after the driver's birth date. PennDOT automatically sends an Invitation to Renew (DL60A/DL60R) to each driver three months prior to license expiration. Individuals age 65 or older have the option of renewing their license every two years, instead of standard four years. PROCESS: STEP 1:  Receive an Invitation to Renew (DL60A/DL60R) or obtain Form DL-143 (PDF). STEP 2:  Return completed application with a check or money order made payable to PennDOT in the amount indicated on the form. Cash or credit/debit cards cannot be accepted. STEP 3:  A camera card will be mailed, and you should receive it within seven to ten working days after the form is processed. STEP 4:  Once you receive your camera card, take it along with appropriate identification to any Photo Center to receive new digitized driver's license. You may be asked to verify the last four digits of your social security number. PennDOT uses state-of-the-art facial recognition technology when an individual has their photo taken for their driver's license/identification card renewal. Please Note: Customer demand for photo services is greatest the first and last 2 days of each month. Customer wait times are shorter on all other days. If you’ve ever been in the market for a new car (which, hey! Do you need a new car?) then you know that the most important part of the process, besides actually buying the new car, is test driving everything you’re interested in so that you can make an informed decision. But I for one always get carried away with the test drive itself and focus on how awesome the car is instead of the things I should be focusing on, which are the factors that really go into making a decision on buying a car. So, keep these things in mind when you’re test driving and you should be good. Check it out. Is the ride good?. Is it bumpy, smooth, or does it seem disconnected? Depending on what kind of car you’re testing, you should have certain expectations, but make sure the vehicle meets or exceeds them. Are the brakes responsive? Would you trust them to save your life, if they had to? Test them out by trying all different types of braking - slow, short, forceful, etc. - and see how you feel. Remember that hybrid cars will feel different than other types of vehicles when it comes to braking. How is the acceleration?. Make sure that the one you’re testing can get up to speed the way you want it to. If not, look at a different car. Can it handle hills and merging into highway lanes? Is the inside of the vehicle noisy? Make sure the sound level in the cabin is bearable, because things only get worse over time. You should also make sure the sound system is what you want. Do the steering and handling meet your expectations? This is what people really notice about driving, and so if it’s not the best, the car might not be the one for you. Try quick maneuvers as well, like pulling a U-turn on an empty road. How is the turning radius? Can you actually see out of the car? Visibility is SUPER important, so if you can’t actually see out of the vehicle because of blind spots or windshield position or whatever, pick another one.
