At the beginning of September, the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team headed to Barbados for a doubleheader GRC race weekend. This weekend proved to be quite a successful one for the team as drivers Tanner Foust and Scott Speed claimed a one-two finish in both races. This now makes it the fourth time that the pair has completed a race weekend with double podium finishes. For both races, Foust claimed first place in his No. 34 Rockstar GRC Beetle and Speed followed right behind him to claim second place in No. 41 Merchant First GRC Beetle.
“What an amazing weekend,” exclaimed Foust after collecting his second win. “We didn’t start out as the quickest car either day, but the Volkswagen Andretti team worked incredibly hard to improve the cars, and it paid off with this awesome pair of wins! If you had told me going into LA that we’d have a legitimate shot at the championship, I would never have believed you. But, here we are, thanks to some great teamwork and perseverance”.
With such an impressive weekend for the team, they have now solidified their first-place standing in the 2015 Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship as they prepare for the season finale race which will be held in Las Vegas next month.
U.S. sales for Volkswagen of America during the month of September amounted to an overall total of 26,141 units. Once again, the vehicles in the Golf family were the best-selling models for the brand, reaching a combined total of 5,251 units sold for the month. Additionally, the brand’s Year-To-Date (YTD) sales reached a total of 264,215 units sold so far this year.

Volkswagen of America Sales:
- Sales of the Beetle Coupe reached 890 units
- Sales of the Golf reached 1,193 units
- Sales of the Golf GTI increased by 14 percent with 1,825 units
- Sales of the Golf R reached 462 units
- Sales of the Golf SportWagen reached 1,428 units
- Sales of the Jetta Sedan reached 7,746 units
- Sales of the Passat reached 7,228 units
- Sales of the Tiguan increased by 77.5 percent with 2,972 units
Tanner Foust Extends Contract With VW
VW Rallycross fans and fans of Tanner Foust, rallycross driver extraordinaire, will be happy to hear that the two have signed a contract extension. The contract will extend Foust’s position behind the wheel of a VW for the next two seasons.

It’s the right team, manufacturer and series to be with. Now the pressure is on me to get results on the track and that’s how it should be!”
Foust’s career with VW is one highly populated by wins and awards. He has two championships, five race wins, 15 career podiums places, and is a two-time Fan Favorite award winner.
New App-Connect Ads Feature Familiar Hollywood Faces
When it comes to fun, hip ads, Volkswagen is the leader to follow. They demonstrate this yet again in their newest commercial spots featuring actors Michael Peña, Adam Scott, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse.
The first ad, titled “Party”, features Adam Scott planning and preparing for a party when he receives a phone call while driving in his VW. Being the safe driver that he is, he answers the call with the help of App-Connect and voice commands. App-Connect is a feature that is available on 11 VW models and seamlessly integrates your compatible smartphone with either Apple CarPlay®, Google Android Auto™ or MirrorLink®.

The Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross (VARX) team just celebrated their one-year anniversary of the Beetle GRC’s on track debut with a near perfect weekend of racing. The team came away with four podium victories, including two victories, at the Red Bull Global Rallycross (GRC) doubleheader from the Port of LA.
Both wins were earned by racer Scott Speed, making him the winningest driver in GRC history and put him in contention for the 2015 championship. Fellow GRC drive Tanner Foust had a few successful podium finishes as well taking home second place on Saturday and third on Sunday.
“One year from the Beetle GRC’s race debut, and we get to celebrate its birthday with two incredible results here at the Port of LA,” said a beaming Clark Campbell, General Manager, Volkswagen Experiential Marketing. “Our Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team has matured so much in our short time competing in Red Bull Global Rallycross, but this weekend is the crowning achievement of our program so far.”

The new MIB II infotainment system that App-Connect smartphone integration technology that are not part of the available Volkswagen Car-Net® has been featured in a new campaign recently released by the brand. This campaign will include two 30-second spots and five social videos that will each feature the actions that are made possible through the use of these new in-car technologies. The slogan for this new campaign is “The things you love on your phone, available on 11 Volkswagen models” and this theme will be reflected in each of the new advertisements.

The first of the new spots called “Sorry” was released on September 10. This new spot features Adam Scott and Michael Pena driving around in a new VW as Pena uses the new MIB II technology to try and apologize for hurting Scott’s feelings. At the Red Bull Rallycross LA doubleheader this weekend, the Volkswagen Andretti team will make it the first anniversary with the VW Beetle GRC when it hits the track at the Port of LA. Rallycross drivers Scott Speed and Tanner Foust will be hitting the track in their No. 34 Rockstar Energy Drink Beetle GRC and No. 41 Merchant First Beetle GRC’s respectively, they will be hoping to bring home a double victory in celebration of the Anniversary.
“After a year of competition and testing, the Beetles are back in Los Angeles for their anniversary,” said Foust. “Volkswagen was fast here last year and I’m looking forward to showing off the Rockstar Energy Drink Beetle GRC through the dynamic elevation changes of the course. It’s time to show the hometown, LA crowd what we can do!”
Speed echoes Foust’s sentiments regarding his excitement of celebrating the anniversary in his home-state of California.
“I am so excited to get back on track for Global Rallycross in Los Angeles,” said the three-time and reigning X Games Gold Medalist. “This was one of my favorite events last year and I’m looking forward to another big crowd. The Merchant First Beetle GRC is stronger than ever and I’m confident that we’re going to put in two very strong races for the VARX team this weekend.”
