The Volkswagen Polo R WRC has proved to be quite successful vehicle for the brand in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). Now, Volkswagen has offered fans a glimpse at what the Polo R may look like in the future with a faster and more powerful design including an engine that generates 380 hp/280 kW which is about 60 hp/45 kW higher than the current model.

This new version will also be lighter and more aerodynamic with a minimum weight of 1,175 kilograms and a minimum length of 3,900 millimeters. This model will also include a few visual changes such as a broader front spoiler and a large rear wing.

‘‘The 2017 WRC regulations include many spectacular technical innovations for the World Rally Championship,’’ said Volkswagen Motorsport Director Jost Capito. ‘‘The World Rally Cars of the future will incorporate all the experience that teams have gained in recent years. They will be considerably more dynamic, whilst at the same time being safer. As usual, we are working painstakingly on the development of the next generation of the Polo R WRC. The key between now and the start of next season is to achieve the best possible prerequisites to allow the 2017 Polo R WRC to be as successful as its two predecessors.‘‘

Volkswagen engineers have been working on the design of the 2017 Volkswagen Polo R WRC since the summer of 2015 when new regulations for the highest class of rallying were released by the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
