May sales for Volkswagen of America, Inc. (VWoA) increased by 8 percent last month with a total of 34,758 units sold compared to the 32,163 units that sold during May of last year. In terms of year-to-date sales, the brand has reached a total of 144,006 units so far this year. The Golf family alone saw a 251.8 percent increase in sales for the month, reaching a combined total of 6,308 units.

“We are encouraged by the performance of the Golf family, delivering the best May in 15 years. We are happy to see the full-lineup delivering success, whether it’s the all-electric e-Golf, the TDI Clean Diesel models, the new SportWagen and the performance driven Golf R,” said Mark McNabb, chief operating officer, Volkswagen of America.

Volkswagen Sales for May:

  • Sales of the Beetle Convertible increased by 6.9 percent with 1,355 units
  • Sales of the Golf increased by 187.9 percent with 1,972  units
  • Sales of the Golf GTI increased 64.8 percent 1,826 units
  • Sales of the Golf SportWagen reached 1,788 units
  • Sales of the Jetta Sedan increased by 5 percent with 12,650 units
  • Sales of the Tiguan increased by 16.2 percent with 3,079 units
  • Sales of the Touareg increased by 26.8 [percent with 700 units
  • Sales of the Eos reached 349 units
  • Sales of the Passat reached 8,180 units
