While the new Volkswagen all-electric BUDD-e microbus may have been the vehicle debut that most Volkswagen enthusiasts were anticipating for the 2016 CES, it was not the only new Volkswagen concept vehicle to make its debut recently. This week, the brand is attending the 2016 Detroit Auto Show and they debuted their new Tiguan GTE Active concept.

This dynamic concept is based off the design of the 2017 Tiguan, but is an all-wheel-drive hybrid version. It is powered by a 221 horsepower engine paired to a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) and two electric motors, one in the front and one in the back to create a new “electric driveshaft.”

Every journey in this vehicle begins in all-electric E-Mode and it will continue in that mode for about 20 miles until the batteries run out of juice, at that point, the hybrid mode will kick in.

Some of the features that come standard on this vehicle include a 9.2-inch infotainment touchscreen and climate controls that can both be operated through gesture control. This model is also compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
