Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross Team Enters Second Full Season

This weekend will mark the start of the second full racing season for the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team when they take part in the Red Bull Global Rallycross Fort Lauderdale. This event is scheduled for May 30-31 at the Bahia Mar Resort & Marina in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. For this year, the team will once again be entering two Beetle GRC race cars, but Scott Speed’s No. 41 VW Beetle GRC will be specially wrapped for SHARK WEEK in order to promote the annual Discovery Channel event which begins on July 5th, for which Volkswagen is a presenting sponsor.

“We’re really excited about our second season in the Global Rallycross series,” said Clark Campbell, General Manager, Motorsports, Volkswagen of America. “We have the same great drivers and team, and have further developed the Beetle GRC, based on our race experience last year and offseason testing. I’m optimistic that we will be contending for race wins and the title again this year.”

Along with the new wrapping, the Volkswagen Beetle GRC’s will also receive a powertrain upgrade as their 544 hp 1.6-liter turbocharged and intercooled TSI® four-cylinder engine has been replaced with a 2.0-liter TSI engine that generates 553 hp and 465 lb.-ft of torque.
