Volkswagen of America Inc recently announced that four of the brand’s 2016 models, the Volkswagen Golf 4-door, Golf SportWagen, Golf GTI 4-door, and Jetta, were presented with 2015 Top Safety Pick + awards from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) when they are equipped with optional Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist) system.
One standard safety feature that come on each of these models include Automatic Post-Collision Braking System which offers Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist), an active Lane Departure Warning system (Lane Assist), and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert.
To earn an IIHS Top Safety Pick + rating, each vehicle had to score specific ratings in each of the IIHS’s crash tests. These ratings included scoring a good rating in the moderate overlap front, roof strength, side, and head restraint tests; and an acceptable rating in the small overlap front test. Additionally, the available front crash prevention system performance had to earn an advanced or superior rating.
“This year’s Top Safety Pick+ awards demonstrate Volkswagen’s longstanding commitment to vehicle safety and the development of innovative technologies,” said Mark Barnes, Vice President, Sales, Volkswagen of America, Inc. “Our available driver assistance systems and safety features show Volkswagen’s commitment to introduce systems that were once only seen on high-end luxury and premium vehicles, such as Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Departure Warning.”
