Volkswagen Plans to Sell 1 Million EVs by 2025
The Volkswagen Group has recently announced that it plans to sell one million electric vehicles by 2025. This announcement is in response to the CO2 regulations that will be instituted globally in the upcoming years. In order to achieve this lofty goal, the brands under Volkswagen will be launching nearly 20 electric or hybrid vehicles by 2020.
One of the models we’ve heard about so far is the updated e-Golf, which is due to arrive by the end of the year. We’ve also heard rumors about an all-electric vehicle, and another Prius-like model called the XL3 that is rumored to debut in 2018, although nothing has been confirmed just yet. What we do know, however, is that VW engineers are working diligently to develop the MEB, a modular platform that can support a wide range of battery-electric vehicles. This is the platform that supported the Budd-e concept at the CES show earlier this year.

Volkswagen and Gett Announce Partnership
The Volkswagen Group has just entered into a strategic partnership to further their efforts in being the driving force in the future of mobility. Last month, they announced the launch of an independent company which will develop mobility services. This week, they’ve announced a partnership with Gett, an on-demand mobility provider.
Volkswagen has invested $300 million in Gett, which through its app, riders can book rides instantly or pre-book them for later. Gett will gain strength in the market while working with Volkswagen to expand on-demand mobility services in Europe and beyond.
“Alongside our pioneering role in the automotive business, we aim to become a world leading mobility provider by 2025,” says Matthias Müller, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft. “Within the framework of our future Strategy 2025, the partnership with Gett marks the first milestone for the Volkswagen Group on the road to providing integrated mobility solutions that spotlight our customers and their mobility needs.”

VW Returns To Food Network
Volkswagen will be returning to the new season of Food Network Star as the official automotive sponsor. Throughout the season, the 2016 Volkswagen Passat will be making several appearances. The biggest appearance will take place on June 5th. As the official series vehicle, Volkswagen wants to showcase the redesigned sedan’s standard and available features, including:
- Available Volkswagen Car-Net® App-Connect which allows smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™ and Mirror Link®
- Advanced Driver Assistance Features like Park Assist
- Easy-Open Keyless Access: Allows drivers to opening the trunk without a key and motioning their foot by the rear of the vehicle

VW Enthusiasts Will Love These Custom Cars
VW Enthusiasts, rejoice! Volkswagen has released five exclusive custom cars to appeal to its wide fan base that has been following the car brand for decades. Volkswagen has created five custom cars including a Golf 1.8T, a Golf GTI, a Golf R, a Jetta GLI, and a Passat, which will be attending enthusiast events throughout the summer and fall season.
Golf 1.8T: Sporting a classic Bali Green paint job, the Golf 1.8T takes inspiration from the original MK1 Volkswagen Rabbit. It also adds a roof-mounted bike rack, a black stripe, gold 19-inch BBS Super RS wheels, and yellow-tinted headlights to round off this retro look.
Golf GTI: The Golf GTI rocks a purple exterior that is part Jeep Wrangler Backcountry and part Prince, with a gold stripe that matches its gold wheels, while a matching roof-mounted carrier box sits on top.
Golf R: The Golf R, which is inspired by the Scirocco GT Black Edition, has H&R coil-overs like the previous two vehicles, which cut its ride height. It also has a matte black roof and 19-inch black VW Zubehör wheels.
Jetta GLI: The GLI stands out from the pack because of its performance emphasis, whereas the rest of the custom cars are all about style. This vehicle was designed to perform on the track and on the road, with 18-inch Neuspeed RSe52 Wheels and BFGoodrich g-Force Rival tires.
Passat: The Passat is as low to the ground as possible, sporting 20-inch Vossen wheels and a Satin Ocean Shimmer paint job. Its trunk, which is covered with real wood flooring, houses the Boden Autohaus air suspension system.

Volkswagen Unveils the T-Prime GTE Concept
The Volkswagen T-Prime GTE made its bold entrance at the Beijing Auto Show earlier this month. Onlookers were stunned by the concept’s aggressively athletic design and effortlessly efficient capability. The T-Prime GTE was loaded with stylish tech features like LED lighting and an abundance of screens including the 15” center infotainment display, 12” gauge display, 9.6” screen between the two back seats, and a 10.1” tablet behind both front seat headrests, ensuring no passenger will miss out on staying connected.
Some of the performance features included a gas-electric fuel economy of 87 mpg with a fully-electric range of 31 miles, a top speed of 139 mph, and the ability to go 0-60 in merely six seconds.

Volkswagen Announced Clubsport S Hot Hatch
The Volkswagen Golf GTI is turning 40 this year, and in celebration, VW will be releasing the Clubsport S, an extreme version of the hot hatch and the most powerful Golf GTI ever produced by Volkswagen. It will be unveiled at the annual Wörthersee Enthusiast Meet in Austria this week.
The Clubsports S will be powered by a turbocharged 310 horsepower 2.0-Liter Four-Cylinder Engine and a Six-Speed Manual Transmission, although it is assumed customers will be able to upgrade to the Six-Speed Dual-Clutch Automatic Transmission. The Clubsport S will also be equipped with Front-Wheel Drive.
As of right now, this limited edition is only expected to be released in Europe in the fall, but it is still possible it will make its way overseas to the United States. Check back on our blog for updates!
