Volkswagen’s Electrify America
If you’re interested in learning more about Volkswagen’s mission to improve electric mobility, we invite you to take a look at their brand new website called “Electrify America.” Over the next decade, Volkswagen plans to invest two billion dollars to support and raise awareness for zero emission vehicle technology. They plan to build a network of convenient and reliable chargers to make traveling to work, around town, and across the country easier. Volkswagen hopes this investment will allow Americans all over the country to enjoy and understand the benefits of driving electric.
Here’s how they plan to do it.
- Starting in 2017, Volkswagen will install over 300 chargers locally in 15 metro areas. They will also install over 200 stations across the country. These chargers could be in apartment complexes, office parks, shopping malls, parking lots, and along high trafficked highways.
- Volkswagen wants to increase awareness and educate Americans about electric vehicles and the benefits of them on society. They plan to do this through educational programs, ride and drives, and social media.
- Volkswagen is choosing a city in California, which has yet to be disclosed, to act as a guinea pig for their sustainable mobility future. They will pilot ideas such as ZEV transit, ZEV-based shuttle service, and an EV-based car-sharing program (which we discussed in the last blog).

The Top Safety Pick Ratings have been released by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for the year 2017 and Volkswagen has emerged as a clear leader in vehicle safety. Six of Volkswagen’s models earned a Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS.
To earn the Top Safety Pick award, a vehicle must earn a “good” rating in five categories including frontal impact small overlap, frontal impact moderate overlap, roof strength, side impact, and head restraints. In addition, it must offer an autonomous emergency braking system that receives an “advanced” rating for front crash prevention. To earn the distinction of a Top Safety Pick+, a vehicle must meet all of these aforementioned criteria, plus have headlights that earn an “acceptable” rating for visibility and lack of glare.
The 2017 Volkswagen Golf Four-Door, 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack, 2017 Volkswagen Golf GTI Four-Door, 2017 Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen, and 2017 Volkswagen Passat were all recognized with the Top Safety Pick, while the 2017 Volkswagen Jetta was given the 2017 Top Safety Pick+ award.
“At Volkswagen, we strongly believe that the latest advanced driver assist technologies can be delivered without being in the premium segment,” said Hendrik Muth, Senior Vice President, Product Marketing and Strategy. ”The IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK and TOP SAFETY PICK+ ratings awarded to a variety of Volkswagen models compliments our ongoing commitment to offering these features .”
Stop by Fiore Volkswagen or schedule a test drive in any of these models to learn more about these safety features!

Volkswagen Launches Moia
This year at the Paris Motor Show, Volkswagen revealed plans for a brand that would be fully dedicated to mobility services. They have now released more details on the company, to be called Moia. The start-up ride-hailing company will begin in Berlin, but VW hopes to rapidly expand by the end of 2017.
Their first order of business is to develop a ride-hailing service, offering rides on demand at prices we can afford (think Uber and Lyft). Next, they’ll focus on what they call “connected commuting,” which will be a carpool service. “In the future, not everyone will have their own car, so we want to help with Moia,” said Matthias Müller, Volkswagen Group CEO, in a statement.
Volkswagen has mentioned that they intend to expand to the United States market, but no word as to when that will happen. Stay tuned right here on the Fiore Volkswagen blog for more details as they develop!

What to Do After an Accident
Some drivers have never experienced a car accident and some never will. While we certainly hope our Hollidaysburg, Altoona, Johnstown, State College, and Greensburg, PA customers are among those lucky people, we’d like to make sure you’re prepared either way.
Check State Laws
Before heading out, brush up on your state’s laws regarding accidents. If you’re in a no-fault state the steps following an accident that you need to take could be different. It’s also a good rule of thumb to refrain from admitting fault. Let the insurance companies and authorities do that.
Get to a Safe Place
Accidents rarely occur in places that are safe enough for you to exchange information and assess the damage. If possible, move over to the shoulder or a nearby parking lot, and don’t forget your flashers.
Call 9-1-1
Even if you decide that the damage is minimal, it is a good idea to have a police report to officially document the incident.
Document Everything
Take pictures of your injuries, damage done to the vehicles and the surrounding area. Be sure to get the contact information of all parties involved. Another good idea is to get any information from bystanders that were witness to the event.
Bring Your Vehicle to Fiore VW
Once the dust has settled and you need to get some work done on your banged up vehicle, our service team will be here, ready to go to work. We’ll take all the stress out of the situation and get you back on the road in a car that’s good as new.
