The child is turned face-forward too early

Babies must ride facing the rear until they are at least 1 year old and weighs 20 pounds – Experts recommend waiting even longer but it is up to the parent

Some parents don’t like facing the baby to the rear because they have trouble seeing the baby’s face, but it is important that the child doesn’t face forward in case of a crash. A solution is to get a childproof mirror to hang on the backseat headrest to see the baby.

The seat isn’t installed tightly enough

Most people don’t know how tight they should be pulling the safety belt, the answer is as tight as possible. When you jiggle the area where the safety belt is pulled through, the chair should not move more than 1 inch in any direction!

Harness straps are too loose

A big mistake is not tightening the harness straps enough, this because they don’t want to make it too tight or uncomfortable for the child. The correct way is the straps should be tightened so that the slack can’t be pinched between an adult’s thumb and forefinger. This ensures that the child won’t slip too far down in the seat and that the child won’t fall out.

Infant seat angled incorrectly

The seat must be reclined no more than 45-degree angle, just enough so the child doesn’t flop forward but if he/she is positioned anymore than that they could be thrown out between the straps headfirst.

Harness straps are in wrong slots

When the child is facing the rear position, the straps should be in slots at or just below the shoulder. If the child is old enough to be facing forward, the straps should come through the uppermost slots.

Harness retainer clip is out of place

The clip should always be at the child’s armpit level.

The locking clip is out of place

If needed, it should be positioned no more than an inch from the safety-belt latch.

The safety belt isn’t in locked mode.

This information will be provided to you in the owner’s manual of your car, determine what type of belts you have and follow the directions regarding how they must be used with a child-safety restraint.

Spring has sprung and it is officially time to start your spring cleaning if you have not done so yourself yet. Once you’ve taken the time to clean out your interior, it’s time to show your exterior some love. Plus, when your car is looking fresh, you’re feeling fresh! But many of don’t know that there is actually proper steps that you need to take in order to wash your vehicle properly, and if you don’t you could cause some serious damage to your car’s exterior. So take a few minutes to check out our helpful tips below and get ready to roll up your sleeves because we are washin’ away winter and scrubbing our way into spring!

Step 1: Fill a clean bucket with water and soap, choose a car shampoo that won’t strip your vehicle’s wax and provide lubrication for grimy particles. *If you notice swirl marks when you wash your car, try filling two buckets, one with soap and one without. Before you dunk your sponge for more soap, dunk it into the bucket of clean, non-soapy water. This is cleaning your sponge of the dirt and grime that you just took off your car and will help prevent swirl marks.*

Step 2: Rinse your car, make sure you get those pesky, hard-to-reach spots too. This will get rid of loose dirt and grime and ultimately make washing your car a little less of a hassle. When rinsing your vehicle, wash top to bottom opposed to front to back. Suds up your car, rinse and repeat. Instead of a sponge, wash mitts are a great option. For pesky spots, like grime or bugs, try a spot cleaner that will help remove the stuck-on mess.

Step 3: Drying your vehicle after washing is extremely important, it makes all your hard work worth it. Using a clean microfiber cloth, dry windows and mirrors first, then move to bigger surfaces like your hood, doors, and trunk. Don’t forget door jams or any hard-to-reach spots. Lastly, dry your wheels and tires.

Step 4: A spray wax or sealant can help rejuvenate the shine on your vehicle.

  • Check your battery to make sure the connection is clean, tight, and corrosion-free.
  • Make sure to get your ride an oil change and have the brake linings, rotors, and drums inspected.
  • Often overlooked, but important; be sure to check your exhaust system for leaks and damaged or broken supports or hangers if there is an unusual noise.
  • Tune it up with a tune-up to help the engine deliver the best balance of power and fuel economy
  • Check the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, as proper heating and cooling performance is critical for safety reasons and interior comfort in the spring/summer months
  • Inspect the steering and suspension system
  • Check your tire pressure and tread depth to see if it’s time for a new set. Also keep an eye out for uneven tread wear, which indicates that your vehicle needs a wheel alignment.
  • Check the wipers and lighting so that you can see and be seen

  • Your driver’s license: Your I.D. is proof that you are a legally registered driver, this is important since you have to drive off the lot. Your driver’s license is a way to identify that the check or another form of payment is actually yours, too.
  • Your payment form: Whether it is a bank, credit union, or personal check, pre-approved loan, or any other payment form – be sure to bring it. If you are planning to put money towards a down payment you will need some way to pay for it.
  • Proof of insurance: In order to drive your new vehicle off the lot, you will need proof of insurance. It’s a good idea to call your insurance company ahead of time and add the new vehicle to your existing policy. You’ll need the car’s VIN number to set this up. You can also call from the dealership and have them fax or email the insurance card to the dealership.
  • Title/ Registration for your trade-in: If you are trading in a vehicle, be sure to bring the title. If you have a co-signer or a lien against the car, get the appropriate signature ahead of time. This part can be tricky and sometimes causes a hold-up. Give the dealership a call if you are unsure how to go about this. Also, you will need a copy of your current registration.
  • Loan account number: If you are trading in a vehicle and still owe on your loan, bring the loan account number. This number is on one of your pay stubs. You can also call the lender beforehand and ask how to facilitate the transaction.
