Tips For Driving In The Snow | Hollidaysburg, PA
The snow is falling and we want to make sure all of our beloved customers stay safe on the road ahead. We know living in the greater Hollidaysburg area means you’re no stranger to the snow. However, that doesn’t mean that we all like driving in the snow or are even good at doing so. So, in order to help keep everyone safe, we have a couple of tips and tricks for driving in the snow. Now we want to emphasize the importance of safe driving and urge all customers to stay off the road if possible. However, we understand that in some cases it is inevitable that you’ll have to drive in the snow. So take a peek below for a refresher on how to navigate the snow carefully! And if you want to shop for a new VW, we invite you to shop online now at https://www.gofiorevw.com/, and schedule a test drive when the storm clears up!
Tips For Driving In The Snow:
- Accelerate and decelerate slowly. Applying the gas slowly to accelerate is the best method for gaining traction and avoiding skids.
- Drive slowly. Everything takes longer on snow-covered roads. Accelerating, stopping, turning – nothing happens as quickly as on dry pavement. Give yourself time to maneuver by driving slowly.
- The normal dry pavement following distance of three to four seconds should be increased to eight to ten seconds
- Know your brakes. Whether you have antilock brakes or not, the best way to stop is threshold braking.
- Don’t stop if you can avoid it.
- Don’t stop going up a hill. There’s nothing worse than trying to get moving up a hill on an icy road.
- Make it know what kind of driving assistance you have (AAA, Roadside Assistance, etc.)

Valentine’s day is right around the corner and if you’re bummed out because you’re single, don’t be. There’s a special someone in your life that would love to be wined and dine, well kind of. If you find that you’ll be spending V-Day alone this year, then give your vehicle the TLC it deserves. I know, you probably think I’m crazy but the truth is your vehicle does a lot for you… every day! And maybe it’s time to start giving back to your vehicle and take care of it like it takes care of you!
This week I put together ten things you can do to show your vehicle just how much you appreciate it! Now I know it is a lot to ask you to do all of these things in one day, but be sure to keep track of what you’ve done and what you still need to accomplish! If you’re not much of a DIY person you might want to bring your vehicle to a professional and they can do all of the tasks listed below for you.
If you have any questions, be sure to give us a call and we will be happy to answer all of your questions to the best of our ability. Oh, and FYI, even if you do have a significant other it is still important to give your vehicle a little love and appreciation so please check it out below!
- Check and change the oil:
- Regular oil and filter changes will keep your engine’s life running longer
- Nothing will destroy an engine faster than neglecting oil-level checks or fresh-oil changes.
- Flush and change the cooling system:
- A 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water will keep the cooling system in good shape and prevent corrosion and deposits from building up inside the cooling system.
- Be sure to change your coolant once a year
- Change out transmission and differential oils:
- While not requiring frequent service, these fluids must be changed according to service intervals.
- Before topping off fluids, be sure that it is the proper oil and transmission fluid needed for your vehicle
- Clean it up:
- Washing your vehicle is obvious, but when it comes to cleaning the vehicle’s underside many of us fall short.
- Everything the vehicle ran over can also get stuck to the underside, hosing off winter salt and road grime is a good idea to keep from corrosion or build up.
- Grease it up:
- Everything with moving parts needs grease to survive, make sure the proper vehicle parts remain greased as needed
- Wax on, wax off:
- Nothing keeps your vehicle’s paint looking good and protected like a coat of quality wax.
- Wax should be applied every six months.
- Keep Driveline components Lubricated:
- Driveline components such as u-joints also require regular lubrication
- Protect it from harmful UVs:
- Protect the interior plastic by parking the vehicle in the shade, harmful UVs can deteriorate the plastic
- On sunny days, be sure to use a window deflector screen
- Applying a UV protectant to prevent the plastic and vinyl from drying out can also help
- Keep your wheels fresh to death:
- Inspect, clean, and repack wheel bearings with wheel bearing grease according to service intervals
- This is a pretty cheap task so you won’t break the bank doing so.
- Top off your brake fluid:
- Brake fluid moisture, causes components to corrode and fail
- Replacing the brake fluid and bleed system once a year will keep from damage happening
- Brake fluid is pretty cheap

And the best way to make sure you get in and out of your new VW is by making sure you have everything you need to purchase your vehicle! So, before you stop into the dealership for a test drive you’ll never forget, be sure to take a peek below and see what you’ll need. Once you’ve checked off the list below, head into Fiore VW today!
- Your driver’s license: Your I.D. is proof that you are a legally registered driver, this is important since you have to drive off the lot. Your driver’s license is a way to identify that the check or another form of payment is actually yours, too.
- Your payment form: Whether it is a bank, credit union, personal check, pre-approved loan, or any other payment form – be sure to bring it. If you are planning to put money towards a down payment you will need some way to pay for it.
- Proof of insurance: In order to drive your new vehicle off the lot, you will need proof of insurance. It’s a good idea to call your insurance company ahead of time and add the new vehicle to your existing policy. You’ll need the car’s VIN number to set this up. You can also call the dealership and have them fax or email the insurance card to the dealership.
- Title/ Registration for your trade-in: If you are trading in a vehicle, be sure to bring the title. If you have a co-signer or a lien against the car, get the appropriate signature ahead of time. This part can be tricky and sometimes causes a hold-up. Give the dealership a call if you are unsure how to go about this. Also, you will need a copy of your current registration.
- Loan account number: If you are trading in a vehicle and still owe on your loan, bring the loan account number. This number is on one of your pay stubs. You can also call the lender beforehand and ask how to facilitate the transaction.

Happy winter! The snow is getting ready to fall and temperatures are dropping here at Fiore VW. And that means one thing, your Volkswagen is in for it. How can you avoid potential issues with your vehicle? By using our life hacks, you’ll have a successful winter without any issues guaranteed. If you’re in need of a service appointment or you’re ready to upgrade into a brand new Volkswagen, hurry in or contact our team for further assistance. We look forward to working with you and assisting you with all of your vehicle needs!
Stop Foggy Windows:
- Foggy windows are no stranger in the winter season. And they can lead to potentially dangerous situations. Roll down your windows to quickly defog those windows or keep a clean chalkboard eraser in your vehicle to wipe away the fog.
Keep Yourself From Getting Stuck:
- If your vehicle is a little on the lighter side, we encourage you to place a few bags of kitty litter in the back of your vehicle or trunk. This will aid in traction in the rear of your vehicle. And also keep a small shovel in the event you get stuck.
Keep The Underside Of Your Vehicle Clean:
- It’s important to keep your vehicle clean all year long, but it’s especially important to keep the underside of your vehicle clean during the winter. Dirt, salt, and ice can accumulate underneath and cause erosion. Get a car wash on a warmer day and park your vehicle in the garage.
Emergency Kit:
- It’s always a good idea to be prepared in the event of an emergency, especially in the winter months. We encourage you to keep an extra coat, warm hat, gloves, and extra socks in your vehicle. It’s a good idea to keep a blanket, phone charger, flashlight, bottle of water, and a small non-perishable snack.
Avoid Frozen Wiper Blades:
- Whether it’s a little snow or ice, no one likes frozen over wiper blades. We recommend leaving your wiper blades propped up when your vehicle is in park or place a pair of socks over the blades to keep them from freezing.

Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe that it’s already a few days into 2022! This week we are bringing you a few new year’s resolutions that we hope you’ll put to good use this year. We know it’s been a tough year for some and we want to help make it easier for you! So, check out these resolutions and if you’re ready to upgrade to a brand new VW, stop by for a test drive. Or if you’re in need of maintenance, be sure to schedule your appointment with our team online today and we will get your VW ready for all of your upcoming 2022 adventures!
Don’t Neglect Car Maintenance
- We know each year you say this, ‘I won’t slack on car maintenance.’ And you might fall short on that. But we want to help you keep your vehicle happy and healthy all year long. It’s important to stay up to date on your oil changes, tire care, brake pads, and air filters.
Learn Basic Maintenance Yourself
- If you’re concerned about the cost of maintenance, learn how to treat your car to some basic services yourself. There are a lot of tutorials on how to complete basic maintenance. Or simply stop in or schedule an appointment with our team to further assistance.
Stop Driving Distracted
- Did you know on average about NINE people are killed by distracted driving each day. Which makes this a pretty good resolution to make happen. Stop reaching for something, changing your music, checking your phone, taking photos, checking emails/ social media, eating, and yes, putting on makeup or grooming yourself. Just leave this all in the past!
Keep Your Vehicle Clean
- While for some this may be easy, for others keeping our vehicle clean might be a difficult task to stay on top of. But we encourage you to hold yourself accountable and take any trash with you when you exit your vehicle!
