If you’re interested in learning more about Volkswagen’s mission to improve electric mobility, we invite you to take a look at their brand new website called “Electrify America.” Over the next decade, Volkswagen plans to invest two billion dollars to support and raise awareness for zero emission vehicle technology. They plan to build a network of convenient and reliable chargers to make traveling to work, around town, and across the country easier. Volkswagen hopes this investment will allow Americans all over the country to enjoy and understand the benefits of driving electric.

Here’s how they plan to do it.

  1. Starting in 2017, Volkswagen will install over 300 chargers locally in 15 metro areas. They will also install over 200 stations across the country. These chargers could be in apartment complexes, office parks, shopping malls, parking lots, and along high trafficked highways.
  2. Volkswagen wants to increase awareness and educate Americans about electric vehicles and the benefits of them on society. They plan to do this through educational programs, ride and drives, and social media.
  3. Volkswagen is choosing a city in California, which has yet to be disclosed, to act as a guinea pig for their sustainable mobility future. They will pilot ideas such as ZEV transit, ZEV-based shuttle service, and an EV-based car-sharing program (which we discussed in the last blog).
